💥 Tenure

This is important. It takes time to build a successful sales pipeline, relationships and a track record.

If someone has been with a company for 2 or more years, there's a good chance they've had time to build something, understand the market and demonstrate their value.

💥 Know your numbers

Successful salespeople know their numbers.

What was your target? What did you achieve? What percentage of quota did you hit? What did you bring in? What was your average deal size?

You should be able to talk confidently about your performance and the commercial impact you've had.

💥 Be driven by the OTE

You've got to be motivated by commission as well as a decent base.

If you have confidence in yourself and the commission structure is genuinely achievable, then the overall package matters.

Definitely look closely at the commission structure before you sign.

💥 Be inquisitive

Good salespeople are curious. They want to understand the product, the market, the territory, the customers and the competitive landscape.

If you're interviewing for a sales role and you're not asking questions, I'd be wondering why.

💥 Don't freak out about the role play

I speak to a lot of salespeople who tell me they hate this part of the interview process however, it can be a great opportunity to stand out. Whilst it often requires a decent amount of prep to succeed, the interviewer isn't necessarily expecting you to know every detail about a product you've just been introduced to. They're looking at how you approach a conversation, a brief.
