The criteria that quietly kills a marketing search: budget, seniority and niche experience - all three in one person.
In marketing recruitment, clients often want all three without realising how rarely they exist together.
A senior marketer with the right budget fit is common. A senior marketer with deep, specific channel experience - influencer, affiliate, CRM, AdTech, B2B marcomms at that budget is a much smaller pool.
You don't find that out until the rejections start stacking up.
Candidate 1: right marketing experience, wrong budget.
Candidate 2: right budget, not senior enough to lead the function.
Candidate 3: ticks every box except the one niche skill, say, KOL management or programmatic knowledge; that turns out to be non-negotiable.
Each 'no' feels random on its own. Together they're a pattern, and the pattern is usually the client's own hiring criteria, working exactly as designed.
The fix isn't a bigger candidate pool. It's going back to what's actually must-have versus nice-to-have for the role, before the search burns another month chasing a marketing hire who doesn't exist.
This is the kind of pattern we see constantly across APAC marketing recruitment, and it's usually solvable with one honest conversation about priorities before the search even starts.
